Your New Friend
Acoustic duo Your New Friend sound like what might have happened if Morrissey had formed a band with Mark Kozelek in Christmas 2009. Featuring ultra baritone voiced Simon Kobayashi from smallgang, with Sun Kil Moon-esque guitar workouts from Alex Carter (Armchair Songs).
“Simon has some nice songs” Geoff Farina
|
Michael Liggins
Leicestershire based Liggins creates melodic and fervent acoustic music. Believing the silence as important as the musical notes surrounding it, songs are usually performed carefully and with poetic and often abstract lyrics.
“Delicately put together tunes which have hints of early Bright Eyes, coupled with 60s and 70s psychedelic folk” Folkin’ Sheffield
|
Mordros (Solo)
Basso voiced Solo burblings from Smallgang/Mordros guitarist/singer Toshi with special guests.
*Mordros are not a black metal band and have no connections to Lord of the Rings.
|
Benjamin Shaw
Influenced in equal parts by Smudge, Smog and Smallville, Benjamin does oddly detailed quirky lofi in an OCD sort of way.
“Up there with the best of this year…on the ‘to watch’ list for 2010 – 8/10.” The Music Fix
“A cracked and beautiful voice, with a series of gently electronic infused laments of love, loss and disenchantment. Quite beautiful.” Subba-cultcha
“Fastidiously DIY in sound…A ‘name’ for 2010.” God Is In The TV
|
Slushy Guts
“…the virtuoso guitar playing recalls a more spacial john fahey or jim o-rourke, while the glacial darkness has moments of US heroes the for carnation…” Rough Trade

smallgang
North London art rockers smallgang are fronted by half-Japanese siblings Simon and Toshi Kobayashi and backed by the rhythm section of Matt and Ruth Atkins, Smallgang are tightly knit and tightly wound, distilling an eclectic mix of influences through a restless and inquisitive mindset that sets them apart from much of today’s ‘indie’ scene. They mine a smooth baritone voiced Smog-meets-Dinosaur Jr via the Go-Betweens distorto-pop sound and are set to break into your hearts this year and steal important bits.
Exciting news is that the bands 2nd album will be released on Damnably in January 2011.
“Smallgang have pop sensibilities with a forlorn twist. If you’re a regular All Tomorrows Parties punter then this slice of melancholy pop is for you” Artrocker
“gloriously falling somewhere between Regeneration-era The Divine Comedy and Stephen Malkmus at his most post-punk.” God is in the TV
|
Crumbling Ghost
Riff-Tastic Post-Doom/Prog-Folk from Damo Suzuki’s loudest backing band, that recently super-rocked with Stinking Lizaveta @ the now defunct Barden’s Boudoir. RIP!
|

smallgang
Damnably’s favourite North London art rockers first debuted with “Labours” in 2009. They mine a smooth baritone voiced Smog-meets-Dinosaur Jr via the Go-Betweens distorto-pop sound and are set to break into your hearts this year and steal important bits. |
 |
Jugoplastika
This Spanish 4-piece are set to play their debut London show, having shared stages with Shonen Knife, The Wedding Present and Dinosaur Jr. among others in their native Madrid and recently released their album “Say Hello To The Kid”, produced by John Agnello (renowned producer for The Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Son Volt, The Walkmen, and many more). |
 |
Rica Minami
London based ex-Hanjiro front lady Rica’s solo material is cinematically grand with pounding pianos, floaty vocals and dreamy melodies. Playing a solo acoustic set, expect to be swept away by a wave of Japanese psychedelic indie pop, strong visuals and super energy. |
 |
Monster Island
XFM John Kennedy/Tom Robinson favourites, Pavement-meets-The Fall three piece from Lancashire who spark up a satirical and caustic yet pretty catchy off kilter dirge and some of the best lyrics you’ll hear this year. Easily the best band to emerge from Manchester in the last 5 years and the band are ever so proud to have nothing to do with Paul Morely or the haggard sad old rockers that won’t let Joy Division/Factory rest in peace. |
 |
MJ Hibbett
Having performed live on Radio One, had a Record Of The Year in Rolling Stone, an Album Of The Day on 6Music, released one of the first ever viral videos, toured up and down the UK and even featured in an Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, and all while maintaining complete independence from record labels, Hibbett is old school indie, belligerently optimistic, and will have a pint. |
 |
Rob & Sean Price (Airport Girl)
A very special ‘Go-Betweens’ covers set by legendary Fortuna Pop! act who began over a decade ago and have garnered significant press, radio play and fans. Rob and Sean will be joined by various special guests and there may be some Robert Forster solo songs covered too. |
 |
Former Utopia
Radio 6/Resonance FM featured intelligent, edgy, mortally sad and black humoured alt. folk. Formed in East London in 2003 and has since gigged with Shonen Knife, Moon Mama (Afrirampo), Chris Brokaw, Thalia Zedek Band, PW Long, Julie Doiron, Thee More Shallows, Mick Turner (Dirty Three), and David Grubbs among others. |
 |
Russell and The Wolf Choir
Romford born love lorn poet Russell plays a sweet sounding acoustic americana pop that sounds like Kevin Devine kissing Jason Molina on the lips while humming a Karate song. Candid, angsty, bittersweet, and ardently heartfelt. |
