Matt Atkins AKA the Syd James laugh & back-beat behind many of London's bands including smallgang, Slowgun, Crumbling Ghost, Russell and the Wolf Choir , Splintered Man & Huge Baby celebrates his 40th Birthday with ‘The London MATTATHON'
Matt will remain on stage DRUMMING while around him fluctuate a GALA of incredible musicians rocking in a fabulous array of genres including:
Pop, Post Punk, Doom tinged Sludge-Metal, English Folk, Indie-Rock and Experimental.
A true un-missable ‘Night of 1000 Drum Faces’ highlighting just how large and loved a talent Matt Atkins is.
Playing the MATTATHON so far are:
Slowgun formed in 2005 and have been playing their catchy indie-rock-pop tunes on and off ever since. Slowgun have GIGGED with Shonen Knife, Yuck, Bellini, plaided, Versus NYC Wussyand many more. Their self released green 7” single “Stephen” has been played on 6music and an earlier demo of “SIdekick Me” was played on 'Huw Stevens’ show on Radio 1.
smallgang are a half-Japanese London based trio fronted by two baritone voiced brothers that have been making a name for themselves with volcanic live shows exploding tight poppy post-punk with effortless complexity and crazed solo's. Bitch Magnet, Shonen Knife, Versus and Geoff Farina love these guys and so should you!
The band just toured the UK with Bored Spies (members of-Seam/Bitch Magnet/OWC) and released 'No Pain Whatsoever' EP on Damnably and are now mixing their second album due out in 2014.
“Stylish art rockers “ - Time Out
“deceptively deadpan songs often mutate into noisy but controlled thrashing. (Cockpit) is a particularly fine tune.” - Artrocker
“Great record” - The Line Of Best Fit
Crumbling Ghost are a London based Trans-Doom, Sludge, Metal-Folk mongers who starred on Prog-Rock Magazine's front cover and count Stewart Lee and Stuart Maconie as fans. They've released 2 highly respected albums to date and shared stages with Damo Suzuki, Shonen Knife and Stinking Lizaveta.
This will be their first gig of the year!
“In looking back to go forward, Crumbling Ghost have accessed an ancient wellspring of abjection and fatalism that provides the perfect foundation for their baroque strain of psychedelic doom rock.” The Quietus
"unlike hillbilly bands who release novelty albums of AC/DC covers, Crumbling Ghost's second record is a convincing concoction. The Submerged Forest is Can's pulverising Yoo Doo Right with a Zombie- country dance interlude, and the famous lament The Poor Murdered Woman, sung by Katie Elizabeth Harnett suggests the young @Barbara Dickson fronting Black Sabbath. Morris On!" Stewart Lee (Times On Sunday)
