Shonen Knife are a super influential all-female Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka. The bands twenty-seven-year career has seem them tour the world with Nirvana (on the Nevermind tour), Sonic Youth, the BMX Bandits, and as part of Lollapolooza.
They also recorded sessions for John Peel, appeared on MTV’s Beavis and Butthead, 120 minutes, the Conan O’Brian show and even wrote “Buttercup (I’m a Supergirl)” for that for the hugely popular cartoon ‘The Powerpuff Girls’.
The band have a new Bassist (Ritsuko Taneda), a new album called ‘Super Group’ and have now decided to embark on a world tour again!
“When I finally got to see them live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert.” Kurt Cobain

Hi BBC Radio 6 are taking some considered feedback, and it would be great if you could take a few minutes to fill in their small questionaire and request that they employ Damnably to add some groundbreaking music/live sessions/interviews to the their roster.
If you have a look at the recent shows podcasted below, and then check the playlists at XFM, Radio 1 and Radio 6-you will see that almost all the great artists we and hopefully you love are ignored by UK radio, so it would be great to push Damnably onto real radio!
Over the years I have noticed that music scene in the UK is effectively a closed shop with taste managed & manufactured by a select few in radio/press who recycle well written and packaged PR from labels/booking agencies/pluggers who also use gifts to garner airplay/good reviews. Labels and Agencies as profit making businesses opt for safe options of identikit one idea (usually of a Indie/dance/pop or nature) re-enactments of a previously ground breaking band from the 60’s/70’s/80’s.Unsigned acts, those living outside London, and without a professional stylist devised ‘image’ are not unacknowledged by the taste-makers and thus find it impossible to gain the credibility and audience needed to further their careers irrespective of musical innovation or songwriting abilities.
Damnably aims to help balance this mediocrity producing system by discovering and nurturinggood songwriters & excellent musicians of all genres and by ignoring the hype and actually listening to the music. Something that very few in the music industry actually do.
